When we do art projects, we spend a lot of time talking. We talk about texture and learn new adjectives and discuss colors and color mixing and process. The Chipmunk is usually more than happy to chat with me, but this time he just wanted to paint. He made the paint himself, using equal parts cornstarch and water. We colored it with washable tempera paint.
He did want to show off when he painted his hands blue, though :)
Mr. Serious
A little smile for the new colors he was making :)
Mama! I painted this for YOU!
Fighting cats, hyper dogs, lots of music, and learning along with the human hurricane.

How does your garden grow?
We've been working hard in our community garden plot and it's really starting to pay off!
Here's my Chipmunk, showing off his garden!
We've got four varieties of tomato, eggplant, cucumber, jalapenos, purple pole beans, carrots, one peanut plant, and the chickpeas that The Chipmunk planted.
Tomatoes
We've gotten to the point where every time we go, we can come home with a little basket of veggies. Aren't they pretty?
Of course, it's also a fabulous place for a mid-morning nap in the shade :) (Don't let this fool you - this child does NOT nap!)

Stone Soup
It's a classic and it's been one of our favorite bedtime stories lately. We've read it at least once a day for about a week, now. Today, the Little Man decided that he needed to make Stone Soup!
First, he raided the fridge and chose squash, radishes, peas, carrots....and rocks. They weren't in the fridge, though it wouldn't have surprised me! Then he started telling me all the things that were in the soup in the story, so we added potatoes and milk. Chipmunk was pretty mad that we didn't have barley and beef available, so we made do with chicken and oatmeal. :)
Stir it up...
It tastes good!
We cooked it up and he had some for supper. I love it when our books come to life!

How does your garden grow?
We've had a really slow start to the garden, but we're finally starting to enjoy something more than lettuce! The Chipmunk picked his first zucchini this morning. He's so proud of himself!!

brumpit
Mama, how does a brumpit work?
M: a brumpit?
Chipmunk: yes. How does it work?
M: I'm not sure what a brumpit is. Where did you see one?
C: Miss Laura saw one this morning.
M: oh!! A blimp?
C: yes. That. So, how does it fly?
(Does anyone want to explain how a blimp flies to my three year old? I tried, but I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm just making it up!)

Conversations with the Chipmunk
Mama: Look, here's a photo of a dragonfly. Have you ever seen one up close?
Chipmunk: Ooooooooh! Let's look for more!
M: Here's one.... What do you think it's doing on that flower?
C: Hmmm. I don't know. Oh wait, it's a pollinator!
Dragonflies are insect eaters, which was what I was trying to get to, but we decided that they could possibly pollinate plants on accident while they are looking for bugs!
