He walked this for 45 minutes.  45 minutes, people.  That's nothing short of a miracle around here!

Ocean study

With a trip to the beach always comes a couple of weeks of ocean study!

We spent some time looking at the levels of the ocean; my favorite is the lantern fish he asked me to draw in the abyss, next to the underwater vent.

Then of course, there was the actual ocean, but somehow I didn't get any pictures of that!

Overheard while teaching

Sometimes the siblings of my students will hang out with the Chipmunk while I'm teaching. I love that he spends time with such a varied and fun group of people. I overheard this conversation today:

Friend: S, this is a dodecahedron.

S: You mean it's a ball.

Friend: It looks like a ball, but it's called a dodecahedron.

S: Are you just pretending? It looks like a ball to me.

Friend: I'm not pretending. That's what it's called.

S: Yes you are. It's round like a ball.

Friend: Kind of, but look, it's made up of pentagons. It has sides.

S:  OK, it has sides, but it's still a ball!

Maybe we'll work on 3D shapes tomorrow :)

Mr. Math

This is a great little self correcting math game.  It's puzzles, adding, and counting all at the same time.

Chipmunk:  MAMA!  MAMA!  My brain has a tube!

Mama:  Hunh?

C: I think my brain has a tube.  What's it for?

Mama:  A tube?  What time is it?  Do you mean the brain stem?

C:  YES!  Dat's it!  What's it for?

M:  Where did you even see this?  Nevermind....can we please discuss this over coffee in a few minutes?

Get the Job Done

The Chipmunk is always on the lookout for a new or better way to do something.  He loves to invent something that makes a daily routine more fun!  One of his responsibilities is to keep the water bowl full for the pets.

He filled his cup in the bathroom and used it to fill the cooler.  It took a little trial and error before he figured out that he had to fill it up past the spigot on the inside.  After he figured that out, then he realized that the edge of the bowl was higher than the spigot.  So he lifted it up!  Those new blocks from Christmas are coming in handy :)

After that, it was easy!
